Look at what happened to Alex Smith when the 49ers drafted him in the first round. However, the 49ers need to fix the offensive-line, draft an offensive tackle and I understand that the 49ers signed Marvel Smith (what worries me is the history of the injuries). The offensive-line is similar to the backbone of a human body and if it is broken. You cannot do anything and even if we have a quarterback that runs like Michael Vick one way or the other he will get injured. Heck, even the running-back in the back field will get clobbered. As for Alex Smith, he never did get a chance to really blossom because of the offensive line, coach changes and different offensive line coach. In 2005, he was sacked 29 times, 2006 35 times, and in 2007 17 times. Moreover, it was good that he restructured his contract and he has so many things to prove at the age of 24. He is still young and needs to rework on his arm strength and accuracy. By the way, everyone is wondering what happened to TE Vernon Davis? Well, he was mainly blocking because the offensive-line was terrible and that is how bad the 49ers need to work on the offensive line. In addition, the 49ers will become a smash-mouth football team that will require a good offensive-linemen.

Here are the statistics from 1999 to 2008 and how many times did the 49ers quarterback get sacked:

2008 - Shaun Hill (23) + J.T.O'Sullivan (32) = 55 Sacks

2007 - Trent Dilfer (27) + Alex Smith (17) + Shaun Hill (6) + Chris Weinke (5) = 55 Sacks

2006 - Alex Smith (35) = 35 Sacks

2005 - Alex Smith (29) + Tim Rattay (10) + Ken Dorsey (6) + Cody Pickett (3) = 48 Sacks

2004 - Tim Rattay (37) + Ken Dorsey (13) + Cody Pickett (2) = 52 Sacks

2003 - Jeff Garcia (21) + Tim Rattay (7) = 28 Sacks

2002 - Jeff Garcia (17) + Tim Rattay (5) = 22 Sacks

2001 - Jeff Garcia (26) = 26 Sacks

2000 - Jeff Garcia (24) + Rick Mirer (1) = 25 Sacks

1999 - Jeff Garcia (15) + Steve Stenstrom (10) + Steve Young (8) = 33 Sacks (Notes: That same year, one of the greatest offensive-line coach passed away Bobb Mckittrick may rest in peace.)

Running Back and Fullback:

The 49ers need to draft a running back in the later round because Gore will need help and fullback position is also needed.

Wide Receiver:

Well, our star receivers are old and the 49ers may draft a receiver in the later rounds.

However, I would love to draft one of these two wide receiver Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech or Jeremy Maclin from Missouri. But, we need to fix the Offensive-line.

Defensive-Line:

The 49ers primary defense is the 3-4 formation, however, we need a true two-man nose tackle to anchor the defensive line. Moreover, without a true two man nose tackle the defense would open for the inside run. If the 49ers draft one, that would definitely help, the inside and outside linebackers to either focus in pass rushing or pass defense (zone or man). In addition, the secondary can focus on the receivers better instead of worrying about stopping the run.

Well, right now the 49ers currently have five defensive-end and one defensive tackle.

Inside and Outside Linebackers:

The 49ers need a pass-rusher and even though that the 49ers have a total of nine inside and outside linebackers.

Secondary:

San Francisco need to draft a cornerback or safety in the later round and the 49ers currently have seven cornerback and four safety.

Draft Day 1:

1st Round #10 Pick:

1. C - Brett Helms, LSU

Well, the 49ers will be fine with Singletary as the Head Coach. One last thing, the 49ers can trade their first round draft pick for multiple picks in the 2nd-through-7th round. Which would also not a bad idea because that is where the talents can be found such as Montana, John Taylor, Tom Rathman, etc. Thank you for visiting.
